One of the best providers that we list on this website, Newsbin, has announced the release of their latest newsreader client, Pro version 6.1. And while they made improvements and fixed bugs in the initial client, we thought that the incorporation of a remote control function would be well wort the mention. Right now their new client is available for download from their website, but it’s only free for the first 10 days. After that you will have to pay a little to keep it.
The first thing we noted in the change-logs was the bug fixes, that’s always a good thing. The post list tab’s Load drop down now goes back a full 4 years now. Retries for failed headers is now connected, as is the speed and time remaining displays. (You need to hover over the taskbar icon.) Icons changed from the arrows to plus and minus signs. RAR processing happens much more fast. A new ctrl-G shortcut has been hooked up to perform header updates. Of course, there were a few minor cosmetic changes. And the Coup-De-Gras…added in the TCP commands for the remote control interface.
There are other mobile apps being developed to compete with the likes of SABnzbd and others, but we’re happier than a pig in slop to see that the Newsbin crew are finally going into the remote control field. Rumor has it that they are already experimenting with an iPod/iPhone/iPad application as well as Androids apps. You can find out more about the apps and any other development they may be working on over at their SourceForge page or in the Newsbin forums.
