And not only is this one of the coolest add-ons for Usenet users, it’s for one of the best browsers on the internet. We cruised on over to their add-ons to check out this new one and here is what we found out about this offering from them. This application is the first from Ben Dusinberre of DQ5 Studios, though he does have others on the burner.
The add on is a small affair to download and get installed into your Firefox. We were using the latest version of FF 7.01, and the installation went without any issues, and soon we were told to restart the browser. Once we restarted the browser we went to the add-ons and set the app configurations, and display options up for our system, and went to work.
This add-on exclusively works with your SABnzbd install, and will send, downloads and RSS feeds to SABnzbd. It adds œSend To SABnzbd to the right click context menu, and a widget to the status bar that will allow you to pause, resume, and open SABnzbd. And when you hover your mouse, the details of any ongoing downloads will be displayed. (Size, speed, time remaining, etc.)
There are several website specific functions for Usenet websites like nzbmatrix.com, tvnzb.com, newsbin.com and others. When a search is done, there will be a button to send the results to SABnzbd next to each report, and there is a button to send all selected results to SABnzbd, too. The right click œSend To function also works on these sites.
While we were at the Firefox website we did note a lot of positive feedback, and a few (damn few) negative feedback comments. Most comments were feature requests. We haven’t had much opportunity to completely check this out yet, but the little time we have spent with it so far has been a pleasure…so, if you use Firefox, and SABnzbd at the same time while surfing and downloading, then this extension may be the one for you.
