Those Who Live In Glass Houses – Are Legislators Pirating

We’ve been telling you all about the proposed anti-piracy bills that are in congress, SOPA and the PROTECT IP act. They were sent to committee, where we hope they will die, but in the meantime, we thought we would give the lawmakers a little more incentive to kill these bills.

There have been reports stating that even though they were drafting, legislating, and arguing the strengths of these proposals, they were busy downloading pirated material that they were condemning.

Throwing Rocks

One online journal has been busy looking at a massive database of highly incriminating information at a website called YouHaveDownloaded. They have found that illegal downloading has been happening at the RIAA, Sony, Fox Networks, and even the Department of Homeland Security…but when they said that the U.S. House of Representatives was to be added to the list, we had to take a closer look.

What Are They Downloading

It was found that more than 800 torrent activities could be associated with the House, and the website can only track a small fraction of the torrenting community. The data that the website tracks is actual data and cannot be disputed…especially when it gets this detailed.

We noticed a lot of self help books being downloaded, but there was a lot of them downloading Windows 7, some of the most popular movies, a lot of television shows, and yes, the expected porno. Most of the downloads that caught our eye were illegal according to their new, and existing laws.

Where’s The “Set A Good Example” Rule

Or is this a case of “Do as I say, not as I do?” A thousand little sayings would seem to apply in this situation, but we aren’t going to belabor that.

Jump On The Bandwagon

We were surprised that we found so much illegal activity going, they did after all create the laws that were supposed to curb the illegal torrenting.
