Giganews Announces The Release Of Mimo v2.0, And Upcoming Improvements

Back in November, Giganews announced the launch of the web browser Mimo and their partnership with Goldenfrog search. Since then they have been collecting data, and suggestions from their Diamond members that have been using the browser, and making improvements. They realize that their members need the fastest, and best news reader to surf the mountains of data on Usenet. Their members told them everything they loved and hated, and they are listening to them.

Goldenfrog Development Has Been Hard At It

This latest release isn’t just a minor upgrade or security update, either. Their developers went all the way, redesigning the core elements to reduce the lock-ups, increase speeds, and provide a better download management system. This release, along with their announcement of the L2TP/IPsec protocols in the VyprVPN shows that they have been busy for the last few months.

Here’s some of the improvements you’ll notice in the Mimo v2.0:

  • Queue priority – If you have more than one item in your Queue, you’ll get the download with the highest priority first…and faster.
  • PAR verification – Now verification can be run in parallel with your downloads, and no pausing. The feature, called “PAR in Parallel” has been reported to increase downloading by up to 100%.
  • Pausing and resuming downloads has been fixed.
  • When you start Mimo now, any pending downloads you have will automatically start.
  • Priority changing – This new feature will allow you to change the priority of your downloads. All you do is right-click on a pending job, then select the “Move” option. Also, if you pause a download, the next job in the queue will automatically start.

What’s Next On The Giganews Agenda

After the last few months of development, you would think, that the development team would be looking for a little time off, but Giganews is claiming more surprises are on the way. With the overhaul of the core of Mimo finished, they have become obsessed with appearance. They plan on polishing the interface and create a more pleasurable user experience. The team at Goldenfrog has said that the entire interface will be overhauled, and since it’s still in beta, they are still taking input from their members. We’re guessing that they will again, out-do themselves. We’ll watch them close and see.
